The Steak and Caviar Housing Market: The Southeast Region has a strong pipeline for serving the “steak and caviar” (higher income) portion of the housing market. However, homes within reach of middle and lower income families are becoming harder to find. One of the primary obstacles to serving this growing market segment is local resistance generated by stereotypes about people who want to purchase moderately priced houses. Research from Action Media and the Fannie Mae Foundation will be presented in forums designed to increase local acceptance for development projects which address the underserved portions of our regional housing market.
Regional Roundtables on Creating Healthy Communities: Creating a regional vision and supporting big-picture ideas will depend on municipal and county governance and local tax reforms to help communities work together more effectively across boundaries. New information – including a statewide poll supporting local governance reform, a Brookings update report on Pennsylvania’s recent progress in returning to prosperity, and a Pennsylvania Economy League study on municipal fiscal health – will be presented for feedback, discussion and strategizing in roundtables throughout the region this spring and summer.
